How Connecting with HORSES can help us achieve CARDIAC COHERENCE...
Updated: Jun 21, 2021

“Recent studies conducted by the Institute of HeartMath provide an explanation on bidirectional “healing” that occurs when we are near horses.”
Cardiac Coherence by definition is achieving a state which is intended to regulate your heart rate, increase its variability and synchronize the activity of our sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. It can be simply defined as a state of UNITY and INTEGRATION of our mind, body and spirit.
Did you know that the heart works in a similar fashion to the brain but with a higher level of intelligence? The heart has a network of around 40 thousand neurons which autonomously send signals to the brain. In fact, the heart sends way more information to the brain than the brain does to the heart! The signals sent from our hearts, not our brain, are responsible for regulating our emotions and can affect our emotional experiences.
Did you know that your heart also emits an electromagnetic field? Its normal range is between 90 cm’s and 2 meters and can change depending on what emotions we experience. During Cardiac Coherence this field can expand up to 4 meters and is scientifically measurable by a magnetometer. While this is certainly significant, take a moment to consider that the electromagnetic field projected by a horse’s heart is 5 times larger than our human one. Theirs is not only larger but also stronger than ours and can directly influence the rhythm of our own hearts.
Equine wellness therapies have conducted studies using HeartMath showing horses assisting in healing humans. This occurs when a horse’s heart rhythm is strong enough to influence, like a magnet, the human’s heart rhythm, thus aiding in regulating and calming the neurochemistry within the brain.
It has been said that Cardiac Coherence is the Source of our Inner Power. It is a physical and emotional balance that speaks of full body efficiency. When we are in a state of COHERENCE our Nervous, Hormonal, Cardiovascular and Immune System all work in harmony.
Knowing this we should be able to comprehend the important, and often overlooked role that our emotions have, not just in our every day lives, but how they directly affect our health as well.
When we feel positive emotions our heart rate variability generates coherent waves. This balances all the energetic systems of our bodies and enhances our:
• ability to think clearly
• reasoning & problem solving skills
• decision making processes
• ability to retain information
By developing the intelligence of the heart, we increase our resilience and sharpen our intuition. We become more connected with ourselves and this generates a positive impact on our interpersonal relationships. With increased confidence in our intuition comes confidence in ourselves and in others.
Working with horses can be the foundation to developing deep bonds, connection, clear communication and ultimate unity.
